Learn This Basic Italian Phrase With The Bible
I have noticed that reading the Bible regularly in Italian has really helped my ability to read Italian in general. However, when it comes to listening and speaking, it has made very little difference. Words spoken fast still pass me by in an incomprehensible blur, and I still struggle to think quickly enough to respond.
Let’s face it, while learning Italian with the Bible can be a helpful way to build up vocabulary, it can’t replace conversation practise with an Italian teacher or real life Italian speakers.
However, there’s one essential phrase that does have some Bible verses to learn it from.
Dov’e - Where Is -
If you’re in a restaurant in Italy and need to use the bathroom, then you can say - Dov’è il bagno?
Here are some of the Bible verses that include Dov’e.
Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Matthew 2:2
«Dov'è il re dei Giudei che è nato? Abbiamo visto sorgere la sua stella, e siamo venuti per adorarlo».
And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. Luke 8:25
Allora disse loro: «Dov'è la vostra fede?». Essi intimoriti e meravigliati si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Chi è dunque costui che dà ordini ai venti e all'acqua e gli obbediscono?».
Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. John 8:19
Gli dissero allora: «Dov'è tuo padre?». Rispose Gesù: «Voi non conoscete né me né il Padre; se conosceste me, conoscereste anche il Padre mio».
